Ruminant agriculture has been the focus of much debate in recent years regarding its contribution to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, and its role in sustainable food production and consumption. In 2018, the Oxford Martin School outlined a new way to think about how greenhouse gases contribute to emissions budgets, using a metric that accounts for the short atmospheric lifespans of certain climate pollutants such as methane, and that has the potential to shape policy and carbon budgets for climate mitigation. In this webinar, we will hear from three speakers discussing the new metric GWP*, from a science, context and delivery standpoint. The webinar will highlight the options for measuring climate pollutants from farming, inform debates around the contribution of ruminants to global heating and consider the policy solutions for a climate changing world.
