Anthony started the Veterinary Green Discussion Forum in 2022, a conference for anybody interested in the future of the planet.
When I was in Year 11 (fifth form) in the early 80s, I organized my first conservation congress for local sixth formers to discuss the state of the environment. Fast forward forty years, and we’ve just enjoyed two incredible days at the London Wetland Centre—a hidden gem nestled along the Thames near Hammersmith—alongside my brilliant colleagues Charlie Coles, Kamila Buczek, and Rebecca Morrin from The Webinar Vet.
Our discussions focused on the veterinary circular economy. Circularity is about enhancing both technical and biological cycles, offering a beautifully nuanced, holistic approach to viewing the global system—going far beyond the narrow obsession with Net Zero targets.
The event was filled with inspirational speakers, deep listening, and rich discussions, all paired with the chance to connect with fellow veterinary leaders who are passionate about the environment and eager to drive positive change. I’ve come away feeling energized and inspired by the fantastic participants at the Veterinary Green Discussion Forum, and I’m already looking forward to doing it all again next year.
We even played a thought-provoking game to imagine what the world would look like if the veterinary industry were in charge—and let’s just say, we did pretty well!
A special thanks to Alice Richard, Anna Judson, Susan Paterson, Angharad Belcher, Martin Mitchell, Suzy Ramsay, Paul Hadaway, Craig Bennett, Rob Noble, Lydia Brown, and Evangeline C. for their contributions.
Later that evening, I met with Sean McCormack BSc (Hons), MVB, MRCVS—a vet and all-around great guy—to witness the first beavers in London for 400 years. They didn’t disappoint!
I firmly believe in the power of two universal laws:
When you give, you get back tenfold.
The law of attraction—when you plant your flag in the ground and declare your mission, the right people are drawn to help you achieve your vision.
Our vision is to transform the veterinary profession into one that’s more hopeful and environmentally conscious.
After seeing the beavers, Sean and I went on a bat-watching adventure, where he shared so much of his knowledge with me. There are many vets who inspire me with their environmental activism, and Sean is certainly among the best—the veterinary Batman!
