Bio
John Fletcher is a graduate of Glasgow Veterinary School and was awarded a PhD from Cambridge University for a study of the environmental and hormonal control of breeding behaviour in red deer. He is an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and a fellow of the Royal Agricultural Society. He was the first commercial deer farmer in Britain and continues to farm red deer breeding stock at Auchtermuchty in Fife although the original venison business has been sold. He was awarded the Queen’s Award for Export for the establishment of deer farms in Japan, Europe, N America, Thailand and Taiwan. He worked for Dalgety New Zealand locating and exporting deer to New Zealand from Europe and has lectured in New Zealand, USA, Canada, and many European countries. He is currently Director of Venison Advisory Services Ltd providing advice to new deer farmers and those wishing to start farming deer.
