Bio

Dr. Ricky Walther is a 2020 graduate of the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. During veterinary school he was the 2019 National President for the Veterinary Business Management Association that educates veterinary students on business operational and financial skills, leadership and communication. Upon graduating he worked as a small animal general practitioner at 7 doctor private practice in Folsom, CA. He then became the Medical Director for a new corporate hospital in the area and grew and ran a successful 2 doctor practice. His clinical interests include preventative medicine, dermatology and nutrition. Since veterinary school, Ricky has been the veterinary advisor for Pawlicy Advisor, the leading pet insurance marketplace, who focuses on helping veterinary teams outsource the pet insurance conversation within the hospitals and aims to find the ideal policy for a pet’s particular demographics. He is an advocate for pet insurance, and after seeing the impact that pet insurance had on his clients and their pets, he joined Pawlicy Advisor full time as the Chief Medical Officer and has dedicated the focus of his career to educating other veterinary teams on the importance of having financial planning conversations with their clients to lead to improved patient outcomes and a more positive environment for veterinary team members. Dr. Walther has spoken both live and virtually to numerous veterinary schools as well as at AVMA Convention on topics around financial barriers to care, pet insurance and non-clinical veterinary careers.
