Bio

Alex graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1990 and worked in mixed practice for 6 years. She then completed a Residency in Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket between 1996-1999, following which she was appointed Lecturer and subsequently Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia at the University of Liverpool. Alex gained the RCVS and European Diplomas in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 2001 and has been a European Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia and an RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia ever since. Alex’s interests in teaching saw her gain the PGCert(Learning and Teaching in Higher Education) with Distinction in 2006 and she published a textbook on Veterinary Anaesthesia, for which she was the main author, in 2010 which has recently become an e-book. She took a sabbatical from 2007 to 2010 to complete her PhD in equine obesity and applied nutrition which complements her interests in all aspects of anaesthesia and perioperative care. 

Alex has been a member of the Credentials and Education committee of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia for 6 years which entails a significant input into reviewing the credentials proffered by Members-To-Be of the College. She is also now Honorary Treasurer of the ECVAA.

Her outreach activities have recently included being a part of the massive HorsePower CPD events, headed by Prof. Derek Knottenbelt, in both 2010 and 2011 and being a regular CPD provider for in-house and external CPD courses.
