Bio

Rae earned a degree in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Manchester before completing a Masters in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law at the University of Winchester, where the subject of her dissertation was public perceptions of cats in shelters and barriers to their adoption. After working within a Cats Protection adoption centre, she went on to complete her PhD in the behaviour and welfare of indoor-only cats, utilising both behavioural and physiological measures to infer welfare. Rae joined the feline welfare research team in 2022, and enjoys using her research skills on a range of projects, particularly within the veterinary shelter metrics and disease surveillance research stream.
