Bio

After qualifying from Massey Mark spent 12-13 years in both mixed and companion animal practices where he focused on large animal herd health, small animal medicine and surgery. Mark had experience with clinical medicine for a wide variety of species, including alpaca and wildlife, before moving into a state government role dealing with local disease issues, animal welfare and exotic disease response. It was at this time that he completed a Masters in epidemiology to strengthen his disease control and surveillance programme skills. Mark moved into a MAF [now MPI] role helping establish the first “outbreak” response team and exotic disease preparedness plans [including serving in the control centre for the UK FMD outbreak response]; then moved to a long term technical role in the TB control programme. In TBFree/Ospri Mark was heavily involved in research work, surveillance, control design and monitoring systems, animal health management databases etc. He also had a short term role recently, as a pharmaceutical technical veterinarian. Mark continues to be passionate about improving the health and welfare status of all animal species, particularly farm animals, and looks forward to making a useful contribution to the Cognosco research work.
