Bio

Lautaro is an Assistant Professor in Bovine Immunology in the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He earned his PhD from the University of Guelph in Canada and his MSc from the University of Florida. His lab focuses on understanding how different on-farm management factors affect immune function and overall health of dairy cows and neonatal calves. His lab is dedicated to investigating the intricate dynamics between several on-farm management factors (such as colostrum feeding, probiotics, and antibiotics), and their impact on intestinal and immune development. Their primary objective is to unravel the complex interplay between these factors and their profound influence on the early intestinal microbiota and immune development of dairy calves. By dissecting the impact of these management factors his lab is committed to developing evidence-based tools to optimize long term health outcomes in dairy cattle.
