The Virtual Veterinary Care Association welcomes its newest member to their Board, Dr. Gil Patterson. Dr. Patterson currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the veterinary telehealth company, VetNOW, as well as an Adjunct Professor in Food Animal Medicine at Lincoln Memorial University, College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Patterson brings his unique and diverse perspective to the VVCA, given his extensive experience in food animal veterinary practice, public health, and academia. Dr. Patterson is originally from New London, CT and completed his BS degree in Animal Science at the University of Vermont in 2007. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Following graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Patterson moved to Minnesota where he worked as a swine veterinarian with the Swine Vet Center, a private veterinary practice that provides swine health and management consultative services to commercial pork producers. Dr. Patterson left practice in 2014 and began a residency in Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the University of Minnesota, Center for Animal Health and Food Safety. During the course of his residency, he earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, and became a diplomat in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine (ACVPM). Dr. Patterson then spent four years at the Center for Animal and Human Health in Appalachia (CAHA), a One Health-focused educational outreach and research organization within Lincoln Memorial University, College of Veterinary Medicine, in Harrogate, TN. His primary role with CAHA was to conduct animal and agricultural-related research for the region, advocate for public health and veterinary medicine, educate veterinarians in rural animal health, and advance regional development through community related education and training. Through these experiences Dr. Patterson recognized the growing need for telehealth solutions designed specifically to support the needs of healthcare professionals of the future. He officially joined the VetNOW team in April of 2020, and is actively working with his team to develop telehealth solutions to improve veterinary practice, public health, food safety, and healthcare productivity.
