Bio

Dr. Martin Unger is a distinguished veterinary orthopaedic surgeon with a career spanning over three decades. He completed his veterinary studies at the Ludwig Maximilian Universität München in 1985, followed by a residency at the University of Zürich's veterinary surgical clinic. Dr. Unger holds multiple certifications, including the title of Fachtierarzt für Chirurgie and Fachtierarzt für Kleintiere, and earned his Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) in 1993. Dr. Unger's extensive professional journey includes founding and managing a small animal hospital that evolved through different stages and locations. Initially, he owned it independently, then two partners joined the hospital, and eventually, it became part of the AniCura network. Since 2016, he has been the Managing Director and Head Surgeon of AniCura Kleintierspezialisten Augsburg, where he oversees advanced surgical cases and directs a team of veterinary specialists. A passionate educator, Dr. Unger has been a regular lecturer and instructor at national and international AOvet courses since 1992. He is also a published author in several prominent veterinary journals and a co-author of the AOvet classification of long bone fractures in dogs and cats. Throughout his career, he has supervised multiple ECVS diplomates, contributing significantly to the development of future veterinary surgeons. Dr Unger continues to be an active voice in the field of veterinary orthopaedics, sharing his expertise through lectures, workshops, and publications that advance both clinical practice and veterinary education.
