Bio
Kris Gommeren graduated in 2002 at the Ghent University, where he subsequently completed a residency in internal medicine. He became a specialist in internal medicine in 2009 and worked briefly in a private referral clinic before moving to the University of Liège to develop their emergency and critical care unit. In 2017 he became a specialist in emergency and critical care and completed his PhD on the influence of systemic inflammation on the cardiovascular system. Kris is past president of the European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, and co-founder of the European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Ultrasound interest group. Together with other enthusiastic colleagues, he is organizing the European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Congress in Ghent at the beginning of June 2022. He recently co-founded the Animal Blood Bank Benelux, with which he hopes to make transfusion of blood products accessible and less stressful for his colleagues in the region.
