Bio

Catriona is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who has been working in the adolescent inpatient environment in the UK. She has an interest in the mental health impacts of the eco-crisis on children and young people as well as what nature-based practices and insights can add to mental health care.

She is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Sustainability Committee. Through this she is working with the College and the Child and Adolescent Faculty in their response to the Climate and Ecological Emergency (CEE).

Currently one focus of this is on raising awareness and developing training and resources around eco distress (climate or eco-anxiety, climate grief and related experiences).

She is co-author on the recent Lancet Planetary Health paper "A global survey of climate anxiety in children and young people and their beliefs about government responses to climate change".

She has trained with The Natural Academy in Eco-Psychology and Nature Based Practice and is Assistant Course Director for a Confer Diploma Course: Ecopsychotherapy and the Emerging Adolescent Mind. She is using these insights to bring Nature into the center of the health response to the CEE including via partnership working with The Wildlife Trusts, by piloting and evaluating novel ecotherapy interventions in the inpatient CAMHS setting and by disseminating training to other NHS staff.
