Bio

Dr. Johnson-Delaney is a 1980 graduate of Washington State University and practiced avian and exotic animal medicine in the greater Seattle area. She was Exotic DVM 2003 and received the 2009 Oxbow Small Mammal Health Award. She is a past president of both the Association of Avian Veterinarians and the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians. She is the author of the textbook Ferret Medicine and Surgery as well as the Exotic Companion Medicine Handbook for Veterinarians. She was lead author for the guinea pig and ferret modules for Vetstream/VetLexicon. She serves as Medical Moderator for the ExoticDVM Forum (online) and Scientific Editor for Conference Proceedings for the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians. She has written and edited numerous articles and book chapters on many different exotic species and is a frequent lecturer at veterinary conferences. She serves as a Consultant for NW Zoological Supply, as a consultant for the Exotic Animal Rescue and Rehab, Oregon Tiger Sanctuary, JoJo’s Cavy Kingdom, and the Pacific Primate Sanctuary. She is the co-founder of the Washington Ferret Rescue & Shelter (founded 1998), and currently serves on its Board as Secretary. She also has been on the Board of the Association of NW Avian & Exotic Veterinarians since its inception in 1991. She is a Member-At Large in the Association of Reptile and Amphibians Veterinarians, on the AEMV Board as Welfare, Ethics and Legislative Committee Chair. She is the Assistant Editor of the Journal of Exotic Pet Medicine, a member of the Educational Resources Committee of the American Association of Lab Animal Science and is on the Scientific Review Board of AVMA.
