Bio

Ana graduated as a veterinary nurse in 2012 in Portugal where she worked for five years in a small animal hospital. In 2015 she completed her Nurse Certificate in Physiotherapy and in 2017 decided to move to the UK to further improve her knowledge and veterinary nursing skills. After working at the Queen’s Veterinary School Hospital in Cambridge as a ward nurse, in 2019 she joined the anaesthesia team at RVC’s Queen’s Mother Hospital for Small Animals where she is been working since. Ana’s special interest in anaesthesia led her to obtain her Nurse Certificate in Anaesthesia in 2019 and her PgCertAVN in Analgesia and Anaesthesia in 2022. She was also a board member of the Portuguese Veterinary Nursing Association from 2020 to 2022. Ana was awarded with the best nurse case report presentation at the EVECCS congress in 2021 and the BSAVA congress in 2022, and since then she has been speaking at national and international congresses. Ana has a special interest in pain management, environmental sustainability and she is passionate about teaching. She is also the author of two book chapters of The Veterinary Nurse’s Practical Guide to Small Animal Anaesthesia.
