Dr Alex Davies was honoured with the prestigious BVA Young Vet of the Year Award in November 2021, recognised for his significant contributions to veterinary mentorship and widening access to the profession.

Based in South Wales, Alex practices at Shepherds The Vets, a busy small-animal primary-care hospital where he has returned following his EMS placements. He combines clinical work with research and community engagement, pursuing projects through platforms like PetSavers and BSAVA related to small-animal neurology and feline lymphoma BSAVA

During the pandemic, Alex identified that aspiring veterinary students lacked access to vital work experience. He responded by developing a free national virtual veterinary work experience programme through the non-profit Vet Mentor, which attracted over 1,000 students. The initiative enables young people to virtually shadow practising vets, participate in teaching sessions, and learn practical diagnostic and client-handling skills.
