International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while also marking a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. This year’s theme is #breakthebias and asks the world to call out instances of bias against women in the workplace, at school and at home.

If you are unsure if bias exists in your work, here are a few questions to ask:

• What is the gender pay gap?

• Is there gender balance in my job? 

• Are there safe working environments and questions about women in leadership? 

Bias not only puts women at a disadvantage, it can hold back their careers. Consideration must be given not only to how we encourage women to join industries, but how we ensure that they stay in them and thrive.
