Description

There has been a lot of interest in the role of the environment in the aetiology and treatment of feline urinary tract disease. The work of Buffington, Chew and Westropp at Ohio State University raised the importance of thinking beyond physical health and their publications brought consideration of the impact of other health dimensions to the attention of the veterinary profession. This presentation will consider the treatment of lower urinary tract disease from a veterinarty behavioural medicine perspective and highlight the importance of emotional and cognitive health when treating these patients. It will offer practical advice on the behavioural medicine approach with information about how to advise caregivers regarding environmental optimisation for their pets at home.
